Itinerary

Day 1-3: Arrival and Start of the Trek

Flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur or Biratnagar, followed by a jeep ride to Taplejung. From there, we begin our trek through subtropical forests and terraced fields.

Cultural Diversity: The region is home to various ethnic groups, including Limbu, Rai, and Sherpa. Observe the transition of cultures during the ascent.

Day 4-7: Ascent through the Tamor Valley

We follow the Tamor River upstream, passing remote villages like Chirwa, Sekathum, and Amjilossa. The landscape becomes increasingly alpine.

Acclimatization: Slow ascent and regular breaks help with adapting to the increasing altitude.

Day 8-10: Reaching Ghunsa and Acclimatization

Arrival in Ghunsa (3,595 m), a picturesque Sherpa village. We spend an acclimatization day here with optional exploration tours in the surroundings.

Local Culture: Use the time in Ghunsa to learn more about Sherpa culture and traditions.

Day 11-13: Trek to Kangchenjunga North Base Camp

Via Kambachen and Lhonak, we reach Pangpema (5,143 m), the Kangchenjunga North Base Camp. Here we enjoy breathtaking views of Kangchenjunga and surrounding peaks.

Highlight: The view of Kangchenjunga from the base camp is one of the highlights of the trek.

Day 14-16: Descent and Crossing of Tselele Pass

We begin the descent and cross the challenging Tselele Pass (4,250 m), which offers spectacular views of both sides of the Kangchenjunga massif.

Challenge: Crossing the Tselele Pass requires good fitness and sure-footedness.

Day 17-20: Descent via Tseram and Tortong

Via Tseram and Tortong, we continue to descend, crossing various vegetation zones and experiencing the transition back to warmer climates.

Biodiversity: Observe the changing flora and fauna during the descent.

Day 21-25: Return to Taplejung and Departure

The last trekking days lead us back to Taplejung. From there, we drive back to Bhadrapur or Biratnagar for the return flight to Kathmandu.
